You're not only missing the information on the previous week's additions and amendments to the WSS FAQ site but also (so far) a couple of pieces slamming the proof-reading of a new (2006) apress book on SharePoint (that covers an area - extranets - that hasn't been covered before, but the Introduction chapter is woeful leading to worries about the quality of the rest of it).

So follow the new blog to see if it gets better when we get to the meat.

There are two main differences between the second edition of the book and the first edition.

The first is typographical. The typeprint of the first book looked rather amateurish and almost as if it was the typesetting of a printout using courier. This meant that that edition of the book as well as being less satisfactory to read than the second edition also took up more space (more pages; fatter book) for what was essentially the same amount of content.

The second is that in a major revision the Office SharePoint Accelerators chapter from the first edition which also had the appearance of a filler to me has been dropped and instead there is a good chapter on "Visual Studio 2005 and the Microsoft Office System" thus doubling the number of chapters concentrating entirely on programming.

The question of course that you are asking is "if I have the first edition, should I buy the second?". That's hard to answer because we are now getting close to version 3 and some of these techniques won't apply there. What I would say is that if you need NOW to get an SPS 2003 installation up and running and especially if you intend to "improve" it then the Second edition is at the very least as highly recommended as the first edition. In fact as that replacement chapter is much more useful than the chapter is replaces, you should never buy the first edition if the second edition is available to you.

Just remember that like that first edition it demands from you a lot of work in setting up all the pieces of software he will be taking you through the usage of. If that's going to be a problem, don't buy it.

If you do buy it here are a few Amazon links (taken from the item on this book in the WSS FAQ site). By now the second edition of the book might be available from the UK and Germany at least in which case substitute  1590595750 for 1590593383 in those other links.

One of the things that those taxes paid for were people's state pensions which were quite high.

Recently I decided I'd find out (as part of a general look at my rather confusing - because I've worked in many countries - future pension entitlements) how much roughly in money terms I'd be getting from Sweden as a (part-) pension from the age of 65.

The answer as I quickly found out seems to be a big fat ZERO.

If you are a foreigner and have spent less than three years working in Sweden and then move away then you definitely get nothing.

If you've worked there for more than three years and then moved away then you might get something, but the Swedes decide. If they decide that you are already getting enough pension from other sources then you get nothing.

No doubt what they consider to be enough won't be what I consider to be enough so I'll be getting nothing.

Well actually, let's be fair. I was *also* paying pension contributions to the whitecollar workers fund for 5 years. When I left they gave me a piece of paper saying how much they'll be paying me a month.

It's important to note that what they will be paying me is the figure they told me in 1980 with no indexed increase since then.

In other words it's a magnificent 30 Euros a month which by the time I retire might just might buy me a meal.

All I can say is thank goodness I left Sweden after "only" five years. At least the Germans - where I moved to and spent the next nine years - *will* be paying me a pension based on what I paid into their system.

The Moral of this story:

Never, ever, go to work in Sweden unless you are planning to stay there until you retire.
